More about Dan Roy
Dan comes from a very
musical family and his passion for music is life-long.
Starting on the Clarinet at age seven, Dan’s ability to
play by ear became apparent early on. Whilst studying
classical pieces, there was always a natural attraction
to play along with jazz and jazz funk records and this
ultimately lead to a switch to the Saxophone from age
twelve. Dan also studied the piano which helped
his appreciation and understanding of harmony and chord
voicing.
Involved in numerous ensembles, bands and solo
performances (including singing at the American Embassy)
throughout his school years, Dan was presented with the
‘Outstanding Commitment to Music’ award in his
final year.
Dan has performed and recorded demos (over 15+ years)
with a number of bands mainly across pop and jazz funk /
jazz. Venues include – The Troubadour (Earls Court), The Mean Fiddler, The Arts
Theatre (West End), The Railway Inn (Winchester), Sutton
Music Festivals, and improvising sessions with DJs on 'Thames River Boat
Cruises'.
A keen user of music technology, Dan has composed a
number of original tracks and creates new arrangements
of well known jazz and chart tunes.
